What are Trigger Points?

Trigger points are areas of contracted muscle and fascia which can result from regular training, poor posture and injuries. Development of trigger points can lead to decreased blood flow to the area which starves muscles of oxygen and vital nutrients and leads to a build up of metabolic waste and toxins. If left untreated trigger points can cause significant pain and alter biomechanics, resulting in decreased performance.

Trigger point therapy aims to decrease these areas of muscular tightness which may lead to improved range of motion, recovery and performance. Foam Rollers, trigger balls and massage sticks are all recognised physiotherapy treatment modalities, which, if implemented effectively may help reduce muscular pain and tightness and therefore lead to improved performance.
